At Kuppi & Bear, we love finding inspiration in Japan's everyday details, from traditional culture to charming little cafés. Our newest Japanese Iced Matcha Latte and Croissant Earrings bring these two worlds together in a playful, wearable design.
Matcha: More Than Just a Green Tea
Long before matcha lattes became popular in cafés around the world, matcha held a special place in Japanese culture.
Matcha is a finely powdered green tea made from specially cultivated tea leaves. Unlike ordinary brewed green tea, the powder is whisked into water, creating a beautifully rich green drink with a distinctive flavour.
Its history in Japan stretches back centuries, with close connections to Zen Buddhism and the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, known as chanoyu or sado.
In the tea ceremony, preparing and sharing a bowl of matcha is about much more than making a drink. Each movement is thoughtful, from arranging the tea utensils to whisking the tea with a bamboo whisk called a chasen.
The tradition celebrates harmony, respect, purity and tranquillity. It is a lovely reminder to appreciate a simple moment in our busy lives.
From Traditional Tea Bowls to Modern Japanese Cafés
Today, matcha has found another home in Japan's modern café culture.
Alongside traditional bowls of hot matcha, you can discover iced matcha lattes, matcha cakes, soft serves and all sorts of creative green tea treats.
We especially love the contrast between the vibrant green of an iced matcha latte and the warm golden colour of a freshly baked croissant. It's a combination that feels both comforting and a little bit special.
Of course, croissants have their origins in European baking rather than traditional Japanese tea culture. But that's part of what makes Japan's contemporary cafés so interesting: traditional flavours and international favourites coming together in delightful ways.
And sometimes, the simplest café moments become the sweetest memories of a trip.
Our Little Matcha & Croissant Earrings
Inspired by those lovely Japanese café moments, we created an asymmetrical pair of earrings: one iced matcha latte and one golden croissant.
The matcha latte features layers of clear, marbled green and solid white acrylic, while the smaller croissant brings a warm golden touch to the design.
Each pair is designed and handmade in Melbourne, Australia, using carefully selected acrylic materials and gold-plated surgical stainless steel hoops.
The larger matcha latte charm measures approximately 3.8 cm high and 2 cm wide, excluding the hoop. The croissant is slightly smaller, creating a fun, balanced contrast.
We wanted these earrings to feel cheerful, a little quirky and easy to style, whether you're heading out for brunch, meeting a friend for coffee or simply adding a playful detail to your everyday outfit.
